Wendell C. Wiebe has been the Chief Executive Officer of Manitoba Aerospace Inc. since April 2016, when the Manitoba Aerospace Human Resources Council (MAHRC) merged with the Manitoba Aerospace Association (MAA).
Prior to the merger, Wiebe was the Executive Director of MAHRC, a position he had held since 2009. Before joining MAHRC, he was employed by Magellan Aerospace Winnipeg for 17 years. His initial position was as the Manager of Staff Development where he was instrumental in creating an employee training and development system. On a number of occasions, his department was recognized for its innovative programs and collaborative approach. After 10 years, Wiebe was promoted to Director of Human Resources. He was Magellan Aerospace’s representative on the MAHRC Executive for 17 years and served as the Chair from 1999 to 2004.
Wiebe has been involved in adult education for over 30 years and holds a Masters of Education from the University of Manitoba. A highlight of his career was being asked to contribute to a book about adult literacy. The focus of his chapter was outlining the business case for the establishment of a workplace literacy program. The book, Adult Literacy Now, was published in 2000. Wendell hopes his passion for learning and keen desire to eliminate barriers that can impact the success of students will be a positive benefit to Barker College.
The RCAF W/C William G. Barker VC Aerospace College (RCAF Barker College) was stood up in 2018 to meet the professional development needs of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) through a variety of advanced education and training courses. To further RCAF aerospace capability development, the College teaches the year-long Aerospace Studies Programme (ASP) and the Operational Test and Evaluation (OT&E) course, operating its own sophisticated Unmanned Aerial System (UAS).
At the end of each annual cycle, Barker College hosts the Aerospace Power Review. At these events, the students are tasked with making presentations of topics which they have studied over the past year. EnviroTREC has joined in these presentations for several years.
EnviroTREC takes this opportunity to congratulate Wendell Wiebe on his appointment as Honorary Colonel of Barker College, which reflects the interest of Manitoba Aerospace members in supporting 17th Wing in its mission.
