This November, the Builder Award was given to Kim Olson, Senior Vice President at StandardAero, for his significant contributions to the Manitoba Aerospace Industry in several key roles.

Kim is the Vice Chair of Canada’s newly launched national research network, the Consortium for Aerospace Research and Innovation in Canada (CARIC).  As well as serving as the Industry representative to the board from Western Canada, Kim is also the Chair of the Governance committee.  Kim’s leadership on the board during its formative start-up period will be very valuable to the aerospace community in Manitoba and across western Canada.

As an aerospace leader, Kim has helped build strong partnerships between industry and Manitoba’s post-secondary educational institutions, including the award winning CATT Centre, and he led the Manitoba Aerospace Technology Road Map steering committee.

Manitoba’s Technology Road Map (TRM) was a very collaborative process that required wide community engagement to be successful. Kim provided the leadership that brought together more than 50 members across the aerospace community in a cohesive and structured manner to foster strong industry participation in the evaluation of future aerospace technology interests and needs in Manitoba.   As a result of this effort, considerable attention has been raised nationally as well as locally, and industry has a technology agenda that will help build Manitoba’s aerospace future for many years to come.

In addition to all of the above, Kim is also a Director with the Aerospace Industry Association of Canada and the president of the Manitoba Aerospace Association.
